Digital Learning Days - FAQs for Students and Parents

Added 7/28 - Q: We borrowed a laptop/Chromebook/iPad from the school or Technology Center. My child is enrolled in Digital Learning to start the school year. Do we still need to return it or can we just keep it. 

A: All devices needed to be returned so they could be reset for the new school year. Please return the device that you have and make arrangements with your school to obtain another laptop. Many of the devices loaned out were borrowed from other schools and those need to be returned to their "home" location. 

Q: What kind of technical specifications should we consider if purchasing a device for our student?

Q: How does my student access the online digital tools?

Q: My student was issued a CCSD Chromebook or Windows laptop. How do they log in to it?

A: Please see these instructions. 

Q: Why does the Chromebook not stay connected to my home Wi-Fi?

A: These devices are set to always look for the CCSD network first. Once you configure the device for your home network, it will remember the settings. You just have to manually connect to it when you power on and then again after logging in. 


Q: Are there any low cost or free Internet offerings through area service providers?

A: Yes. Please review this site for details on Comcast's Internet Essentials program. AT&T also offers a basic internet plan. You can find those details here

Q: Are there any free Wi-Fi hot spots available in my area?

A: The City of Ball Ground has installed a wifi hotspot at the Ball Ground Senior Center on Civic Drive downtown as a spot where people can come, stay in their cars, and upload or download assignments as needed.  Hopefully this will help a few. It is called “Ball Ground Hot Spot” and is not password protected – open line.

xFinity has also opened their devices to free access. You can find access points at https://wifi.xfinity.com/


Q: How will my students have their password reset if they can't log on?

A: Did you register for self-service password reset? If so, go here.
If you did not register or self-service is not working, students and staff that require password assistance can submit a ticket here. Please provide as much information as possible to help us reset your account (name, ID number, school)


Q: I need Canvas help. How can I reach someone?

A: If you are having issues accessing or using Canvas, please first check our webpage at https://www.cherokeek12.net/Content2/canvas for answers; if you still need assistance, please submit a ticket here and select "Canvas support request" as your topic. 


Q: The laptop or Chromebook assigned by the District is having issues. Who do I contact?

A: Parents may submit a ticket through our Remote Support Ticketing Portal for assistance. Click here to begin

Q: How can I install Office 365 on our personal/home computer?

A: Yes! Through our agreement with Microsoft, all CCSD users are licenses for five copies for at-home use. To install, simply log in to http://office.com with your child's CCSD email address and password then click Install Office. 
** Note: This license is deactivated upon withdrawal or graduation from CCSD. Users have a brief grace period to transition the license to another account.
